What is included in the Scout Camp-in?

The Scout Camp-in includes interactive STEM activities with hands-on investigations, immersive IMAX 3D film which compliments the theme of the evening, an engaging stage show, grab and go breakfast, a special event patch and an exclusive exploration of the entire Museum.

What is the age limit for this program?

Programs are age appropriate for youth in Kindergarten to High School. Scouts are grouped by grade level during programing. The grade levels are K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-12

Who can attend the Scout Camp-ins?

The Virginia Air and Space Science Scout Camp-ins are family friendly. All ages are welcome.

How do I register and pay?

  1. Complete the online Scout Reservation Request form on VASSC website. (PLACE LINK FOR Scout Program Reservation Request Form Here)
  2. The Scout Program coordinator will contact you by phone to collect 50% deposit payment. Pay by phone with all major credit cards at 757-727-0900 extension 709 Tuesday-Thursday at 10am-2pm. You may also mail checks to Attn: Scout Program Coordinator 600 Settlers Landing Road, Hampton, VA 23669. All checks must be postmarked within 5 business days of reservation request.
  3. Please complete the online Overnight Scout Program Expectations Agreement and submit your roster (for youth and adults participating). 
  4. Remaining balance is due 30 days before program

Can individuals register and pay on their own?

No. Scout Camp-ins are designed for group reservations and the minimum participants is 10 Scouts per registration.

What if I can’t meet the minimum participants required?

Your reservation is incomplete and cannot be processed.

What time is the start of our program?

You may arrive at 5:45 p.m. for check-in. The IMAX film begins at 6:05 p.m.

What time does the Scout Camp-in end?

The program officially ends at 10:00 a.m. Sunday

May I return to the Center after the Camp-in has ended on the same day?

Yes. You’ll need to exit the building at 10:00 a.m. and return with your wrist band at 12:00 p.m. when we reopen to the public. Just inform the front desk representative that you were a Scout Camper.

Where will we be sleeping?

You will be assigned a location in the exhibit areas on the first or second floor of the Museum according to your group size. Please see the Overnight Survival Guide for more details on rules to Scout organizational safety and risk management protocols specifically on lodging for males and females in troops.

Will lights and sound be turned off while we sleep?

No. Please adjust according to your sensitivity to light and noise indoors.

What can I bring?

May I bring snacks?

Yes. Please consume all food and beverages in designated dining areas of the cafe and lobby area. Place your trash in the bins provided.

Will the Zero Gravity Cafe be opened for food and beverage purchase during the Camp-in?

Yes. Food purchases are available for preorder. Please contact the Visitor Services Manager for more information.

To keep campers safe, we do not allow outside food deliveries services during  Camp-ins.

What is in a Grab and Go breakfast?

Yogurt cup, breakfast bar, fresh cut apples and juice

Will there be water stations available?

There are water bottle refill stations near the restrooms for use. Please bring your own water bottles for the evening.

What if a person in our group becomes ill?

For the health and safety of others, please do not attend or stay at the program if you or another member of your group is sick.

What is the age limit for rocket building and launching?

4th graders and older can add the rocket build and launch to their Space Science Exploration program. Space is limited to 50 participants. Each participant must register to build their own rocket.

Is it required for a youth to purchase a rocket program?

No. The rocket kit is optional and available for an additional cost. Due to space constraints, only rocket builders who have purchased kits prior to the evening (with an adult assistant) are allowed in the rocket building area.

If I didn’t build a rocket, may I observe the rocket launches?

All campers and family members are invited to attend the rocket launch at Darling Stadium as long as they adhere to safety protocols.

What is the address to the rocket launch site?

Parking is at the Hampton City Library located on 4207 Victoria Blvd. and walk to Darling Stadium nearby at 4111 Victoria Blvd and wait for further instructions from a VASSC Staff member. Link here

What happens if we have bad weather on launch day?

The VASSC Staff member in charge of rocket launch will determine if it is safe or feasible to continue with the program on Sunday. In the event of poor launch conditions, the launch will be cancelled and not rescheduled. Scouts will be able to take their completed rocket home.
