The Virginia Air & Space Science Center strives to provide quality educational support to students across Virginia. For many students who receive our SOL-focused programs, the funding for those programs was provided through the generous support of the following contributors: 

Bank of America Charitable Foundation

Funding from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation supported the 2020-2021 expansion of the STEM 360 Program & Research Project into Portsmouth and Norfolk public schools. STEM 360 is now implemented in 5th grade classrooms in public schools in Hampton, Newport News, Suffolk, Portsmouth, and Norfolk.

Columbia Gas of Virginia – NiSource Charitable Foundation

Funding from Columbia Gas of Virginia – NiSource Charitable Foundation supports the Virginia Air & Space Science Center’s Science Reimagined Initiative for approximately 1,000 8th grade students in Suffolk Public Schools with our synchronous online program “Earth, Moon, Sun.” This program is taught to students via Zoom and the highly-interactive Nearpod platform.

Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation

Funding from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation supports the Virginia Air & Space Science Center’s Science Reimagined Initiative for nearly 3,000 5th grade students in both Portsmouth and Suffolk public schools. This initiative provides science remediation experiences using five highly-interactive synchronous online programs using Nearpod and Zoom.

Hampton Roads Community Foundation

Funding from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation supported the 2020-2021 expansion of the STEM 360 Program & Research Project into Portsmouth and Norfolk public schools. STEM 360 is now implemented into 5th grade classrooms in public schools in Hampton, Newport News, Suffolk, Portsmouth, and Norfolk, serving over 1,000 students in 2020-2021.

Optima Health 

Funding from Optima Health supported the expansion of STEM 360 into Portsmouth and Norfolk public schools for the 2020-2021 school year. Optima Health also supports Science Saturday programming that is live streamed monthly from the Virginia Air & Space Science Center to the community at-large.

Southeast Virginia Community Foundation (SEVACF)

Funding from the Southeast Virginia Community Foundation (SEVACF) supports the Virginia Air & Space Science Center’s Science Reimagined Initiative for nearly 3,000 5th grade students in both Portsmouth and Suffolk public schools. This initiative provides science remediation experiences using five highly-interactive synchronous online programs using Nearpod and Zoom.

The Virginia Department of Education

Funding from The Virginia Department of Education supports the STEM 360 Program & Research Project, a multi-setting, multi-platform education program and project that now has five years of research results and has impacted over 5,000 4th and 5th grade students from across Hampton Roads.

Virginia Space Grant Consortium

Funding from the Virginia Space Grant Consortium supports educational enrichment experiences on-site and through outreach opportunities. The Virginia Space Grant Consortium has also provided generous funding for museum capital projects.

VuBay Foundation

Funding from the VuBay Foundation supports the Opportunity Program, a Virginia State Department of Education Neighborhood Assistance Act Tax Credit Program for Education. The Opportunity Program provides free or reduced educational programs to students that show financial need.
