HAMPTON, VA – The Virginia Air & Space Center’s 25th anniversary event, The Astronaut’s Table, will ring true to its name on April 22. Former NASA astronauts Walter Cunningham, Lunar Module Pilot of the Apollo 7, and Fred Haise, Jr., Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 13, will be special guests at the celebratory event.
Walt Cunningham piloted the eleven-day flight of Apollo 7, the first manned flight test of the third generation U.S. spacecraft, on October 11, 1968. Prior to his assignment to the Apollo 7 crew, Cunningham was on the prime crew for Apollo 2 until it was cancelled and the backup Lunar Module Pilot for Apollo 1.
Fred Haise, Jr. was one of the 19 astronauts selected by NASA in April 1966. He served as backup lunar module pilot for the Apollo 8 and 11 missions, and backup spacecraft commander for the Apollo 16 mission. Haise was the lunar module pilot on Apollo 13 and has logged 142 hours and 54 minutes in space.
The Astronaut’s Table is a cocktail attire event that will celebrate the Virginia Air & Space Center’s 25 years and reflect on the impact and partnership the Center has had with Hampton Roads and beyond. The Astronaut’s Table will be a unique event masterfully integrating Science and Technology with Art and Entertainment through exciting science demonstrations, dynamic musical groups, and presentations of the latest technologies to showcase where the Virginia Air & Space Center is going in the next 25 years.
The Astronaut’s Table will be held at the Virginia Air & Space Center on April 22, 2017 from 6pm – 10pm and is open to the public. Tickets and details can be found at www.vasc.org.
