We were honored to have Blue Star Families host their “All Hands On Deck” event at the museum this past Monday, October 5th. This event acted as the conclusion to Blue Star Welcome Week 2026, working to connect military families to their new community in Hampton Roads. Sponsored by Target, volunteers spent their morning at the VASSC assembling 1,000 food boxes that contained typical pantry staples that military families who are new to the area wouldn’t have been able to move with. These boxes were then loaded up from our back loading dock and distributed directly to recently relocated military families all over Hampton Roads!
Blue Star Families is the nation’s largest nonprofit dedicated to supporting military and veteran families, a demographic that is very prominent in our local area. It was incredible to have work being done in our building that directly benefits those within our community, especially with the amount of military history we showcase and celebrate here at the VASSC.
So we’d like to say a special “thank you” to Blue Star Families and to all the volunteers who offered up their Monday mornings to this great cause!
